Received in the mail:
a card from the Rick Owens store in Paris. Mon Dieu....
Do you call it "bad taste", "art", "provocative" ?
I have no idea but got frightened when I opened the envelope and saw the photo ;)
... maybe they should think about an advance warning on the envelope.
All I can ask is ... "Why?" ;)
What you have to expect when receiving "RICK OWENS MAIL"
Sooooo, here is a card of two SWEET giraffes
and a flower, saying thank you to

Thanks for your sweet comments--they always brighten my day!
ReplyDeleteNow for this Rick Owens mailing...geez. I see what you mean. It's VERY disturbing...
Dear Martina, so very happy I can post a comment #1 for today's post. My computer has crashed and I am writing from my laptop computer which is 100 years old and missing key letters. Today is my Birthday and I am looking forward to a wonderful day full of surprises :-))) I will count card with the giraffes to be surprise #1 !
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to the card from Rick Owens I absolutely hated it. I think it is not only scary, but in extremely poor taste.Fashion has to make one want to live in beauty and grace, not to blow your brains out. Several years ago I studied so called "conceptual" art ( a version of it) which was very much in fashion for several years. Conceptual art demands that idea behind it has to be translated to the viewer with a degree of shock. For example, I do not know if you recall collection by Alexander McQueen back in 1995 -1996. Models went down the runway in gorgeous tulle skirts intentionally ripped and covered in blood. The Collection was called "Girls Raped In The Heels Of Scotland". The idea behind Collection was disgusting and terrible, but it did what is suppose to do - attracted attention to the name of McQueen. He later admitted that he was inspired by Mell Gibson's "Brave Heart"... Another example is the exhibition of the work of graduates of one of the Art Colleges in New York. One girl decided that she needs to paint a controversial painting, she was 2 month pregnant at the time. She self aborted and painted with the aborted blood horrendous picture of nothing. Just strokes of blood all over white canvas. Majority of the people were disgusted. But there were some who found in it philosophical approach : "the blood of unborn child, blood of the Christ and so on.". What I am trying to say is that it must be a very sad day at Rick Owens if they felt that they had no choice but to attract attention to the name of the brand not by spectacular design, but by terrible picture that has nothing to do with neither art, neither Fashion, neither good taste.
P.S. Sorry for such a long message :-)))
Well, look what happened, while I was writing my well-informed masterpiece of a comment # 1 :-))))), people have already posted many other comments :-))))
ReplyDeleteHi there! True, that Rick Owens card is disquieting but I guess that's exactly what they want you to feel. It provokes one to comment. So the ad works!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day!
♡♡♡♡ HAPPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, ANYA!!! ♡♡♡♡
ReplyDeleteWISHING YOU A WONDERFUL DAY WITH YOUR FAMILY AND
FRIENDS!!!
... sending you a bunch of flowers ;)
Anya
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get all these informations?
You are a walking libary ;)
Enjoy your special day!
tbh, i don't give a hoot. i don't get it. just as i don't get Brigadeiro's comment.
ReplyDeletethe giraffes are too adorable! congrats!
Oh you poor girl! So sorry you received this in your mail ;)
ReplyDeleteAs "Couture..." said:
IT IS NOT ONLY SCARY, IT IS POOR TASTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Therefore I love the giraffes even more!! CUTEEE, this is so you, Martina!
Happy week to you my dear!

Haha, I got the same card! But to be honest, it's what I expect from Rick Owens. His London store has a replica of just his severed head rolling about on a pedestal. It's what he does. The same way certain rock stars will go on stage looking like they've just been murdered, it's his way of expressing his creations and I know he's not expecting everyone to love it, but his fans will probably adore it. And the majority of Rick Owens fans aren't businesswomen or housewives or anything like that, but they are goths, rock stars and people who live on the edge and have an understanding for what he's really about. A lot of Rick Owens is about the tailoring and impeccable clothes But a lot more (just like any designer) is about portraying a certain image and lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteOh, but the same day I also go the Balenciaga lookbook and catalog which is much more harmless, so I guess it was a good balance ;-)
Such a sweet card by the way.. thank you! Hope you had a lovely weekend!
ooo wooowooww u r sooo lucky!!
ReplyDeleteHave a sunny week :)!
Oh that's awful!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice for Rick Owens to think of you, but really!

Holi canoli!!
ReplyDeleteIf they did this a few years ago and said it was inspired by "Kill Bill", I would probably get it a little. But I hope dear Mr. Owens would just leave gore to Hollywood... I mean REALLY, he should!
Having said that, aren't we all glad it's in black and white, at least??
Hope it did not ruin your day. =( Such a sweet person like you deserve something gazillion times more cheerful! ...Like those blog awards! =)

Hmmm...I'm usually into avant-garde provocative stuff, but I give big thumbs down for this Rick Owens card. He's trying too hard to be provocative. What a big turn off!
